Building Sylligence: 3,000+ Users and the Work Behind It
I'm Jackson Dong, a co-founder of Sylligence. We reached 3,000+ users in two months, building an education platform that helps Queensland students practise, get feedback and work out what to revise next.
That milestone is a useful way to explain the scale of the project. The work itself gets much more specific. A student opens a question, makes an attempt and needs some help figuring out why their reasoning went wrong. Every part of that experience has to fit together.
What is Sylligence?
Sylligence is a study platform for Queensland students preparing for senior assessment, with tools for mock exams, Rapid Revision, AI tutoring, assignment feedback and ATAR planning. The feature guide explains what's available.
A student might arrive with a topic they haven't understood, an exam they want to practise for or feedback they need to act on. Those are different starting points. The product needs to make it easy to pick up the right task without rebuilding a study plan every time.
Reaching 3,000+ users
Alongside reaching 3,000+ users in two months, Sylligence's social presence grew to 9.5k+ followers and generated 1M+ social media interactions. The two-month timeframe refers to user growth.
I'm proud of those numbers. They describe reach, though, and a study platform still needs to earn a student's time once they've signed in. A follow, a registration and an improvement in understanding are different outcomes.
For me, that keeps the attention on the product. Can the student find an appropriate question? Can they read their attempt alongside the feedback? When they return, can they carry on with the work they started?
The part after a wrong answer
Picture a student who understands a worked solution when they read it but struggles to start a similar question alone. They may need to practise that first decision in isolation before trying the full question again.
That's a design problem worth thinking through. Simply adding another explanation doesn't tell us whether the student can now make the decision themselves, or whether we have only given them another piece of text to read.
The interface has a role here too. Feedback is difficult to use if the original attempt has disappeared offscreen or the student has to leave the page to find the topic it refers to. Those details affect how much of a study session goes into learning.
Where AI fits
An AI tutor can let a student ask another question when an explanation hasn't clicked, while feedback on their attempt gives them a place to start revising. Both need to stay close to the task and the level of reasoning it calls for.
In practice, a comment such as "add more detail" leaves a lot of work unexplained. Pointing to a missing step and asking the student to try it gives them something they can do. That's the kind of interaction I want to keep exploring.

What I'm building alongside it
I also work on AI integration and business software through AppliedAgents. The setting changes, but I still care about what happens after someone uses a feature. A customer enquiry needs to reach the right person, just as feedback needs to lead a student back into useful work.
